Flamenco passion to welcome the new year
30 November, 2018
Barcelona is a city with never-ending parties… and the last night of the year is no exception! For those of you who are here in December or for locals who want a different New Year’s Eve with a traditional touch, what could be better than an excellent dinner in a wonderful place, surrounded by their loved ones?
Flamenco nights in Barcelona
Barcelona is a vibrant city where Spanish traditions coexist with the special Catalan culture. Thousands of tourists, as well as its proud residents, value the region’s traditions, for example a genuine evening in a “tablao”: a typical flamenco establishment where you can experience the real flamenco culture with music and dance to the rhythm of clapping and guitars. The Andalusian neighborhood, within the “Pueblo Español” on the Montjuïc mountain, is the perfect spot in Barcelona to discover (or rediscover) many of those traditions in an authentic atmosphere. El Tablao de Carmen is an genuine place in the Spanish Village that recreates the real flamenco atmosphere in a very creative way. Created in honor of the great “bailaora” Carmen Amaya, this place offers pure flamenco tradition since 1988 in a cozy setting; it’s like feeling at home and with great Spanish cuisine. The place is decorated in the style of an Andalusian “corrala” (a type of Spanish housing) and the show is a classic “tablao”: four dancers, two guitarists and two singers. The place and the environment allow a certain proximity between the public and the artists, while enjoying tapas or drinks.
A different New Year’s Eve
In December, Barcelona dresses up for the occasion with many lights, carols and charming Christmas celebrations that lead to tablaos, restaurants and clubs. As tradition dictates, for the last night of the year, there is a great dinner with family or friends and a special toast with cava. The Spaniards eat 12 grapes, one by one, with each bell strike at midnight, for good luck and a prosperous new year. Why not give a colorful touch to the usual traditions? The Tablao de Carmen offers a New Year’s Eve celebration to the rhythm of tambourines with a live show, party and open bar. An ideal option to celebrate the New Year with family or friends.
